Mahogany Wine Glass Cabinet - June 2007
This is my first "heirloom" project. Made of mahogany, it features two pull-out
shelves for stemware, with grilled glass doors. For safety, the glass was
tempered. The lower section has storage
space for wine and liquor bottles, with solid wooden doors. The design was
drawn from a photograph of a similar cabinet, but adjusted to match the style of the Federal
period furniture in the dining room in which it is placed.
This project particularly exemplifies the magic of woodworking: how a pile
of nondescript wood is transformed into an intricate cabinet.

Pine CD/Book Bookshelf - November 2006
The same person that requested the Pine DVD Bookshelf below also requested a second one
with a shelf for CDs and a couple of shelves for books, again matched in
style to other furniture in the room.
Note that the new bookshelf is only 4 feet tall while the existing shelf shown is
a full 6 feet tall.

Pine DVD Bookshelf - September 2006
The daughter of the person for whom I made the Cherry DVD Bookcase (below) immediately ordered a DVD
shelf for her own home when she saw it. Aside from the usual size specifications, she asked that it
match her existing furniture to some extent. This also marks my first project using water-based aniline dyes
for colour, and water-based lacquer for the finish. The results were superb.

Cherry Mini Cabinet of Drawers - August 2006
This spur-of-the-moment birthday gift was intended as a mini storage unit. Made of cherry with solid brass pulls and corner protectors, it measures about 12" wide, 10" high and 9 inches deep. The drawers (not visible) were made of beech.
Unlike previous projects that used oil stains and polyurethane as the finish, this
project used a gel stain and a danish oil finish, resulting in a piece that has
a more subtle aged appearance rather than a glossy factory finish. The beech
drawers were sanded smooth but left au naturel.

Pine Photo Album Bookcase - July 2006
This sturdy bookcase was required to fit a tight space, and to support rather heavy photo albums. The newer albums are 12 1/4" long, and the older ones are 15" long
so the shelves are extra deep. To support the weight, the shelves are extra thick
and inset into the left, right and back sides.

Oak Table Refinish - May 2006
A friend found an old painted table in a dusty corner of this apartment building's
basement. He asked me to strip the paint to reveal the natural wood underneath
and then stain and finish it to bring out its natural beauty. The original
drawer was missing, so he requested that a computer keyboard drawer be installed
instead in a widened opening.
This was my first refinishing project. And my last :-)

Cherry CD Cabinet - February 2006
A friend commissioned a small custom CD bookshelf to replace a generic black CD
tower. It was to be shorter, but somewhat wider so as to accomodate more CDs.
It's made of cherry with clean, simple lines to match other parts of the existing
home entertainment centre pieces like the turntable. In place of a low shelf close
to the floor (where CD titles are very difficult to read) are a pair of false drawer
fronts.
The daughter and son-in-law of my friend, upon seeing it, immediately commissioned
me to craft one for them.

Pine Bookcases - December 2005
A friend with a new apartment wanted some antique-looking bookcases of specific width and shelf heights. The smaller one (left), with 18" wide shelves, was primarily
to showcase various items. The larger bookcase (right), with 30" wide shelves,
was to have an extra tall shelf, three shelves for CDs and two shelves for books.

Pine DVD Cabinet - September 2005
This is a storage cabinet for DVDs, CDs, and VHS video tapes. It's modelled after a design seen at Home Depot,
with shelves on the inside of the doors as well as in the cabinet itself. It's customized to exclude the lower
shelf on the inside of the doors to allow for the storage of board games on the bottom shelf.
Constructed from pine, it's styled and stained to match an existing TV stand, and sized to fit the
available space.

Cherry Box - July 2005
This original design is a small cherry box with maple trim. The lid simply lifts off.
The rosettes on the two opposing sides are made from dogwood and the floral design woodburned.
This was a birthday gift to replace a tattered old shoebox used for storage of personal items.
